According to Trump’s immigration plan.
“The influx of foreign workers holds down salaries, keeps unemployment high, and makes it difficult for poor and working class Americans … to earn a middle class wage.”
When it comes to immigrants, legal or otherwise, Trump has said,
“They’re taking our jobs. They’re taking our manufacturing jobs. They’re taking our money. They’re killing us.”
To remedy this, a year ago this past April Trump signed an executive order that would tighten rules that award visas to skilled foreign workers and directs the federal government to enforce rules that bar foreign contractors from bidding on federal projects.
This EO, according to Trump at one of his rallies,
“declares that the policy of our government is to aggressively promote and use American-made goods and to ensure that American labor is hired to do the job.”
He further stated,
We’re going to do everything in our power to make sure more products are stamped with those wonderful words ‘Made in the USA. For too long we’ve watched as our factories have been closed and our jobs have been sent to faraway lands.”
His administration is attempting to discourage the use of foreign labor which displaces American workers and reduces wages.
Meanwhile, parts of his clothing line, as with Ivanka’s, are manufactured abroad and he has hired foreign workers at many of his properties.
I suppose one could excuse this with an uninformed “that was then. This is now”, except in the now Trump has requested that the Department of Labor approve a request to hire 40 more foreign workers at Mar a Lago.
The operant word is “more”.
He needs wait staff for the winter months, and apparently there are not enough people in F;orida who can do that. They would be employed from October through May at a rate of $12.68 an hour.

Since the start of his campaign for the presidency in June 2015, a campaign where he railed against those “others” coming to take our jobs, Trump has sought to hire more than 480 foreign guest workers for his various businesses with more than 240 being for Mar-a-Lago.
He says he has to do this,
“Because during the season, Mar-a-Lago is a seasonal job, which is very hard to get people in Florida for seasonal jobs. And during the season, in Palm Beach, Palm Beach is probably the hottest real-estate maybe in the world. And during the season in Palm Beach, it’s very, very hard to get help. You can’t, you know, we’re talking about Mar-a-Lago the club is closed for the summer. You know, the expression “Rich people don’t like heat.” And we close Mar-a-Lago and we open October — like October 1st. And from that, for about a five month period during what they call the Palm Beach Season, which is a big deal, you can’t get help. So we tend to get help from different places including Europe. And we’ve been doing that — by the way, these are all legal visas, you understand that, right?
These are all legal visas, but they — we have to bring people in, which tells you, I mean, you can have jobs out there in certain communities that are doing well. But in Palm Beach, getting help in Palm Beach during the season is almost impossible. So we go through a very legal process and bring people in through legal visas.”
According to Palm Beach County, as of April 2018 employers advertised 21,126 open jobs in the county, and there are 23,567 unemployed people.
So there are 2,441 people looking for jobs that Trump can choose from. Certainly he could find 40 waitresses and waiters in that number.
According to Steve Craig, president and CEO of CareerSource Palm Beach County, the nonprofit organization chartered by the state to lead workforce development in Palm Beach County,
“It’s a great time to look for a job — April’s report indicates that the labor market is tightening considerably. Historically there have been many more unemployed people than job openings, but that gap is narrowing fast.”
The county ranks first in the nation with the greatest abundance of skills among the 50 largest U.S. cities, with abundance being defined as worker supply of a certain skill exceeding employer demand for that skill.
Perhaps he is just not looking.
Last year during “Made in America” week, Trump sought permission from the Labor Department for permission to hire 70 foreign workers as cooks, waiters/waitresses, and housekeepers at Mar-a-Lago.
This year, he also included his golf club in Westchester County, New York and at Trump Winery in Virginia.
Cheaper than hiring the American worker.
While he riles up his supporters with the image of people coming here to take their jobs, Trump is bringing in people to do that.
The master of illusion and distraction.
And his audience oos.
