Hanging on desperately

It is becoming painfully clear that no amount of facts and no carefully explained reasoning will convince many Trump supporters that they had believed the hype and made a mistake in voting for him.

Their jobs weren’t protected, the windfall from the tax cuts didn’t happen, members of their families are getting deported, they are losing healthcare, and the trade war begun against our allies and neighbors will hit the red, Trump states the quickest and hardest.

But they want to believe that anything Trump does is in their best interest and for their betterment.

And if for some reason they finally see they had made a mistake, they will contort their reasoning and engage in all manner of logical gymnastics to avoid having to accept what they realize is true.

It is not that 30% of the population supports Trump unquestioningly, it is that many in that group are defending themselves against reality.
