Will he trust us?

The hoped for conclusion of Trump and Kim Kong Un meeting is to arrive at an agreement for the end of nuclear weapons on the Korean peninsula. The major basis for arriving at agreements like this is that both sides believe the other will live by its word.

Although the other countries who entered into the Iran Agreement along with the United states have assessed Iran’s compliance as being acceptable, Trump is attempting to convince the world, and more specifically his base, that Iran is not, and that justifies pulling out of the deal.

One would have to consider that if Kim Jong Un, after seeing the United States pulling out of an agreement that is not being violated, will he wonder that if he complies to whatever is agreed on, will the United States pull out at some later date to its advantage and North Korea’s detriment.

To further complicate things, the allies of the United States may also wonder if it is in their best interest to trust us when we enter agreements with them.

Treaties and agreements do not appear to be this country’s strong suit.
