The most common defense I have heard in favor of Roy Moore is that all we have are allegations that are most likely unfounded, and that People should not be held responsible only because someone has something to say about them, and without evidence, such claims should be dismissed an even ignored.

However, Roy Moore has relied on unfounded allegations in order to have people back him when it came to his condemnations of Gay people.

Without evidence being presented, Roy More has accuse gay people of actions and intent.

As chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, he alleged that homosexuality is “an inherent evil” that renders gay people “unfit parent[s]”, and after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry refused to recognize the validity of its decision because, among other things, children would be “raised in unnatural families that contradict the created order.”

He issued an administrative order that barred Alabama probate judges from issuing marriage licenses to gay couples. Rather than uphold the law, as a state Supreme Court judge should do, he not only chose to ignore it, but directed those under him to ignore it as well.

Citing the Bible and not law, he insisted,

“[the marriage equality ruling] plunges the human soul into a wasteland of meaninglessness where every man defines his own anarchic reality. In that godless world nothing has meaning or consequence except as the human being desires. Man then becomes the creator of his own reality rather than a subject of the Creator of the Declaration.”

The present allegations against him, that he molested a 14 year old girl and pursued three other teenagers, echoes what and how he has accused Gay people of doing by their very nature.

In a 1996 custody case he ruled that a lesbian parent could not visit her children unsupervised, or with her same-sex partner because she was gay and, therefore, posed a heightened danger to her children. There was no evidence to justify arriving at that conclusion, so an appeals court removed him from the case because of blatant bias.

He had claimed,

“Homosexual conduct … is an inherent evil against which children must be protected.”

When he got to the Alabama Supreme Court, Moore dealt with the case of a lesbian mother who had asked for custody of her three children because her ex-husband was physically abusing them after a court of appeals reversed a trial court decision that denied her request because it held that the father’s abuse was just “occasional excessive disciplinary measures” while criticizing the mother’s “lifestyle.”

In overturning the court decision, the court of appeals had held that the mother “had presented substantial evidence” of the father’s “verbal, emotional, and physical abuse.”

The Alabama Supreme Court unanimously reversed that Appellate court ruling claiming the appeals court had improperly weighed evidence presented to the trial court, and Moore, the chief justice, wrote that the

 “homosexual conduct of a parent creates a strong presumption of unfitness that alone is sufficient justification for denying that parent custody of his or her own children or prohibiting the adoption of the children of others.

Homosexual conduct is, and has been, considered abhorrent, immoral, detestable, a crime against nature, and a violation of the laws of nature and of nature’s God upon which this Nation and our laws are predicated. Such conduct violates both the criminal and civil laws of this State and is destructive to a basic building block of society—the family. … [S]uch behavior has a destructive and seriously detrimental effect on the children. It is an inherent evil against which children must be protected.”

There was no evidence presented against the mother that would have justified this.

He also insisted that “homosexual conduct by a parent is inherently detrimental to children,” and that “practicing homosexuals” should be subject to imprisonment or “physical penalties, such as confinement and even execution.”

Moore’s implication was that gay people, especially gay parents, are eager to recruit children to their “lifestyle”, a “Lifestyle” whose effect on children “must not be ignored, and the lifestyle should never be tolerated.”

Without evidence he broadly proclaimed that gay people are child predators and that gay people are especially likely to engage in child molestation.

And when he added,

“Homosexual behavior is crime against nature, an inherent evil, and an act so heinous that it defies one’s ability to describe it”,

he obviously intended to give no evidence to back his claim, relying, instead, on whatever others might choose to imagine.

In a 2005 interview with Bill Press, regarding Gay sex, Moore had said,

“Just because it’s done behind closed doors, it can still be prohibited by state law. Do you know that bestiality, the relationship between man and beast, is prohibited in every state?”

When Bill Press reacted and asked,

“Did I ask you about having sex with a cow? … Or a horse, or a dog?”,

Moore replied,

“It’s the same thing.”

There is no equivalence.

Now after twenty years of ranting about the imminent threat of gays corrupting children it appears he has been concealing his own history of sexually assaulting one teenager and romantically pursuing others.

He made a career of spreading unfounded allegations against Gay people with no problem, and his supporters went along with it. At neither of the trials he presided over involving the Lesbian mothers, were details of their behavior entered into the record or even described. Whatever he held them to doing was what his own mind had conjured up.

Now, even with women coming forward with allegations based on their experience and descriptions of his behavior his supporter are demanding evidence as allegations are not enough.
