For someone who proclaims himself the Artiste of the Deal, Donald Trump seems to rely heavily on two methods to get his way, Fiat and extortion and hostage taking.
In the former method he declares something as is or will soon be, and smiles a broad closed mouth smile. To him, it is done.
loqui, ergo est.
If no one buys that, he resorts to his second approach.
When it came to the Border Wall, he merely announced that Mexico would pay for it, and that was that, until Mexico said it wouldn’t.
As a result Trump threatened to add tariffs onto any products coming from Mexico into the United States which, in effect, would mean higher prices paid by Americans.
When this was seen as rather detrimental to people in this country, he then told Congress they would have to fund the wall, or the government would shut down.
Again, not the best idea even though he thought of it and, therefore, it was supposed to be.
Now, he has given Congress six months to come up with a plan to replace or reinstate DACA, leaving Dreamers in Limbo, but adding the proviso that any plan it came up with had to include funding for the Wall.
Want the dreamers to stay? Pay for the wall.
So they art of the deal is to declare, and when that fails, start attaching what you want to any and everything as often as you have to until people give in.
Hold people hostage if necessary.
When toddlers want something in a store they begin by asking, and when their request is refused, they move on to pouting, then screaming, then a full blown tantrum, and wind up knocking things off shelves.
That is our Toddler in Chief’s art of the deal.
