But, at any rate, Boston and New York City seem to have always had a friendly rivalry that consisted in each claiming to be the better city with its own reasons for claiming to be the better.

For the longest time, when hinterland politicians wanted to illustrate evil in America, Harvard would be lumped in with the term East Coast Liberal as code for un-American and ungodly.

But now, because of the most recent Republican debate, Ted Cruz has brought NYC into the mix, and now it is official, more so than in the past,that  NYC is now part of the ungodly, Un-American East Coast Elite.

A pretty good way of summarizing what Boston’s evil characteristics are that are so objectionable to the right would be the reason General Electric chose to move to Boston.

Obviously the reason Boston is disliked is because it is strong on education, has no problem with diversity, encourages science and the progress based on it, and, call me snobbish, but we like to face the world head on and deal with it –all the things that the rapidly devolving Republican Party finds to be disturbing, objectionable, un-American, and ungodly.

NYC has about 85 major colleges and universities that deal with the arts and sciences.
It has a diverse population.
It is the home of at least 241 Broadway and off-Broadway theaters, at least 212 museums that cover history, politics, racial and ethnic groups, , architecture, art, and progress, a number of opera houses, ballet companies and symphonic orchestras, and the financial institutions, like Goldman-Sachs, that keep the country running.

That might be the problem because, like Boston, the evil sister city on the East Coast, it too has diversity, education, and intellectual pursuits which Cruz considers bad things.
