Charity has its price

It has been established that, even though the conservative media concentrates on the amount paid for each speech, Hillary Clinton donates the fees she receives for speeches to charity.

To some it might be an obscene amount of money per speech, but could you imagine if Hillary, or anyone who gets large speaker fees, took a big fee from a charity they had agreed to speak to?

Since he left office, George W Bush has given over 200 paid speeches at a cost of $100,000 to $175,000 each. His total to date is $15 million, and he told author Robert Draper he intended to “replenish the ol’ coffers” making “ridiculous” money through public speaking.

Mission accomplished.

According to his staff, “none of what he makes when he does get paid goes anywhere other than his own bank account.”

Bush charged a Texas homeless shelter a $100,000 fee for a speaking engagement this past February.

The event, held  for Samaritan Inn, a homeless shelter, was to raise money for it.

Lynne Sipiora, the shelter’s executive director, said, “We’re a homeless shelter, so it was a hefty fee for us, but we ended up netting over $1 million. It was not a very political conversation. I’m sure he’s answered the same questions a million times. But he was very popular and charming and pleasant.”

Considering that the usual price for a speech by someone of his caliber is over $200,000, he was a bargain.
