Once, again, we have an example of a foreign country that would rather sit back and demand the United States sacrifice its young so that they won’t have to, even though it is their fight.
Prince Saud al-Faisal, the Saudi foreign minister, has demanded that the United States lead a coalition of boots on the ground to fight ISIS.
The United States and its allies are attacking the ISIS from the air in Syria and Iraq, but the United States refuses to put boots on the ground. That means that the ground fighting is being done mostly by Iran and its Shia militias.
Saudi Arabia is Sunni.
This has raised serious concerns in Saudi Arabia.
But, rather than get off its butt, Saudi Arabia wants to tell us to step in.
Senator Bernie Sanders quickly and strongly objected to this.
“I find it remarkable that Saudi Arabia, which borders Iraq and is controlled by a multi-billion dollar family, is demanding that U.S. combat troops have ‘boots on the ground’ against ISIS. Where are the Saudi troops? With the third largest military budget in the world and an army far larger than ISIS, the Saudi government must accept its full responsibility for stability in their own region of the world. Ultimately, this is a profound struggle for the soul of Islam, and the anti-ISIS Muslim nations must lead that fight. While the United States and other western nations should be supportive, the Muslim nations must lead”.
It’s about time someone told those in the Middle East, whose world and religion are being destroyed by their neighbors, to step up and start doing things.
We will help, but it’s time they stop sitting back while our people die, get maimed, and then are ignored when they get home.
We have done enough.
