All we need now is Shemp

Not all that long ago I stood in the crowd inside the Oklahoma state capitol when Representative Sally Kern made her infamous pronouncement that Gays were a bigger threat to the United States than Muslim terrorists.

She needed a scapegoat to feed to her followers, and she settled on Gay people.

At the time, she was a local nutcase making an absurd comparison that would help her with her local fans. Although she was doing everything to deny Gay people their rights from proposing anti-Gay legislation, to banning books in libraries, to spreading falsehoods making ogres out of people, her schtick was local.

Until now.

When addressing a convention of home schooling parents in Iowa this past week, Ted Cruz declared, “We look at the jihad that is being waged right now in Indiana and Arkansas, going after people of faith who respect the Biblical teaching that marriage is the union of one man and one woman. We need to bring people together to the religious liberty values that built this country.”

Not sure how this fits in with home-schooling, especially as it is based on the assumption that everyone in the audience chose home-schooling for religious reasons, but obviously Cruz has let out one of his ploys for his upcoming campaign. There is an enemy, and he is the champion of the persecuted.

And make no mistake, this is not an isolated opinion.

Bobby Jindal also at the meeting stated, “We saw a very unusual alliance this week, an alliance between Hollywood elites and corporate America assaulting the rights of Christians who don’t want to choose between our faith, our sincerely held beliefs, and the ability to run our businesses. We need to remind these elites, America didn’t create religious liberty. Religious liberty created the United States of America.”

I thought taxation without representation and years of semi-independence under Benign Neglect did that.

I also wasn’t aware that Governor Pence of Indiana was one of the “Hollywood Elite”.

So it is obvious that in order to court the “religious” vote Cruz and Jindal will use Gay people as the enemy of all that is sacred so that fear will induce people to vote for either one of them.

They will attempt to present Gays as anti-religion, as opposed pro- their rights, and, by claiming they oppose religion, will endeavor to present Gays as un-American.

I wonder, though, how if Gays fought for years to be able to fight for our country they can be considered un-American while both Jindal and Cruz never served, nor wanted to.

Apparently supporting the troops only applies to the straight ones,

I also wonder how, after saying, “We need to bring people together to the religious liberty values that built this country”, Ted Cruz intends to do that when he attempts to make Gay people into the enemy, and along with them their friends, families, and allies.
