John McCain is not only against peace talks with Iran, he also believes that the Israelis, who also oppose the talks, should go rogue.
McCain’s obsession seems to be for a war anywhere, just as long as we have one. He wanted one in Syria, boots on the ground in Iraq and in Iran, and now he, along with Senators Lindsey Graham and Robert Menendez, wants the U.S. to support Israel if Israel attacks Iran’s nuclear facilities.
“[Congress] urges that, if the Government of Israel is compelled to take military action in self-defense, the United States Government should stand with Israel and provide diplomatic, military, and economic support to the Government of Israel in its defense of its territory, people, and existence”.
The international negotiators have come up with an agreement, and Netanyahu does not seem too happy with it. Of course he had not been happy with it even before it was finalized. It didn’t seem that he really wanted anything other than an excuse to attack Iran and would have no problem dragging the United States along. He has allies in congress that support him in this.
Now that an agreement has been reached, as soon as congress gets back after yet another break, you can be sure the members will do what they can to comply with Netanyahu’s wishes, and John McCain might get the closest he has gotten so far to getting his war.
