The other day on my Facebook newsfeed, I received an anti-mask meme from a religious organization trumpeting that “Jesus is my mask” with a picture of the back of someone’s head and, instead of the straps that would show he was wearing a mask, there were two forearms hugging his head with nail holes in the hands.
Not only are there examples in religion where God helps those who help themselves and when Jesus told people to do things, like apply spit and mud, to have a miracle work that these Meme-Christians ignore, but by now, placing nail holes in the hand shows the designer of the meme disregarded known facts to perpetuate and promote a false image in loyalty to a God who forbids lying.
It illustrates an ignoring of facts and science in the name of religion to promote a religion whose model is “the way, the TRUTH, and the light” as if name-dropping is proof of anything in itself
Somewhere during the Italian Renaissance, Michelangelo violated the rules and dissected corpses so that he could more faithfully represent the human body in paintings and sculptures. Previous to their doing this and being followed by others, although the paintings that were done were good, they were limited in the truth of their representation of reality. The human body as was represented until this human dissection lacked a lot of details that would be learned of later.
Although the earlier pictures were decent representations, obviously, the new information made future ones that much better, and, like had happened when artists figured out the simple concept of perspective, there was a major shift when it came to human bodies and the world’s effect on them.
Arms and legs were not only more realistically articulated but body movement became more realistic. In the process, the artist’s depictions of reality became, well, more realistic, and judging from the Sistine Chapel, even the all-powerful Church had no objection with this.
It made a difference between the art found there and that found in old churches with their Icon-like pictures and Egyptian tombs.
But, in spite of what was learned from dissections and represented in even religious art, there seems to be one illogical hold over that seems to only be kept because that is how it was before with anatomical misunderstanding, or perhaps an example of the conscious rejection of facts because they do not fit into the expected facts or go against traditions whose only strength is that they are old beliefs that people cling to.

Popular beliefs have been wrong, and provably so, but it is easier to just let the misconception persist than reeducate the general public, and this laziness has allowed erroneous information to be a pervasive and strong image.
Religious truth takes a backseat to legend and misinformation.
Claiming Jesus is your facemask while misrepresenting His reality, you really cannot expect people to be convinced of the truth by a misrepresentation of that truth.
It appears in the debate whether masks are effective and which ones are the best, such a meme as this spread though Facebook to convince people of a “truth”, merely perpetuates the idea that if the religion pushing an idea has to use faulty reasoning or disinformation, then, perhaps what is being promoted is just as false.
