Under present circumstances, people might consider Rand Paul a “Good Samaritan” because he is seeking money to help those in his state suffering from the devastation of the recent tornado. He, like others helping in the rescue, recovery, and rebuilding are also referred t constantly as “Good Samaritans”.

The story is not about a neighbor helping a neighbor, or someone helping a person with whom they are familiar or who is like them, but about someone helping another who is not a neighbor or similar to the person rendering aid. He is even from a foreign place unliked by the helper or the people with whom he identifies.
So, let’s check Rand Paul’s credentials as someone who helps those unlike himself and are not his neighbors, or in his case, constituents whose votes he needs and wants.
During his time in the Senate, Rand Paul has been involved in votes to aid victims of natural disasters which to their own degree were similar to what happened in Kentucky as far as its being a natural disaster that destroyed the lives of people affected.
In 2013 Hurricane Sandy hit the northeast hard, including that liberal bastion of communism and weak patriotism as defined by people wearing tea bags hanging from their hats, New York, destroying property, businesses, and lives.
Rand Paul voted against the bill to provide recovery funds because it did not shift money from other places even though the debate over which funds would be shifted would have taken much longer than the recovery efforts.
“I would have given them 9 billion and I would’ve taken the 9 billion from somewhere else. I would have taken it from foreign aid and said you know what, we don’t have money for Egypt or Pakistan this year because we have to help the Northeast.”
I am sure he forgot we could save money if we reduced our supplying Israel with weapons and universal healthcare.
Senators have pork barrels and special interests to protect, so shifting money would require a debate while people suffered.
Paul also voted against relief for Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria in 2017 and forn Texas after it was struck by Hurricane Harvey claiming that doing so would raise the national debt arguing for cuts elsewhere and the shifting of money with, again, a protracted debate on whose pet thing would or would not be touched.
“They say we are out of money to pay for hurricane relief. So instead of finding that money somewhere else in the budget, they simply want to raise the limit on our credit card. This has to stop. We spend too much. We owe too much. We cannot keep spending money we do not have.”
This was before the December 2017 tax bill that really helped corporation and the 1% reducing what moneys they paid into the federal coffers with nothing in place to make up for that shortfall but rely on more money from the taxpayers who did not benefit.

“The Governor of the Commonwealth has requested federal assistance this morning, and certainly further requests will be coming as the situation is assessed. I fully support those requests and ask that you move expeditiously to approve the appropriate resources for our state.”
What happened to the need to carefully shift funding and the debates this would involve?
Suddenly, the appropriation of necessary funds needs to be addressed “expeditiously”.
With all the opposition to those things that would benefit the taxpayers over corporations and the 1% many of whom became successful because daddy because they are socialism, suddenly socialism has a good purpose.
Senator Rand Paul’s spokesperson, Kelsey Cooper, released a statement to Newsweek because it questioned Paul’s hypocrisy,
“Kentuckians across the commonwealth are suffering and grieving today. This tragedy is uniting everyone around the common goal of helping and healing. Politicizing that suffering would be low for even the deepest partisan, yet here the corporate media is trying to do exactly that. Newsweek should be ashamed of themselves.”
You see in those previous events no one suffered so it was okay for Rand Paul to politicize aid.
