When the Director of Michigan’s Department of Health and Human Services, Robert Gordon, issued a mask mandate last October, the Resurrection School in Lansing included him in a lawsuit opposing his and the Governor’s attempts to control the spread of Covid 19 including requiring the use of face coverings at schools.
This Wednesday, that lawsuit will be heard before the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals where the school will argue that it is unconstitutional to require children to wear masks when doing so would violate “sincerely held religious beliefs.”
According to the school’s web site,
“We are a family-oriented Catholic school in Lansing, where students are encouraged to reach their God-given potential through a traditional curriculum combined with a focus on Catholic teachings and the love of Jesus Christ in all areas of their lives. We focus on the basics, we wrestle with the truth, and we appreciate the goodness and beauty found in all of God’s creation.”
The school’s argument is,
“In accordance with the teachings of the Catholic faith, Resurrection School believes that every human has dignity and is made in God’s image and likeness. Unfortunately, a mask shields our humanity. And because God created us in His image, we are masking that image.”
“A mask is disruptive to this essential element of the Catholic faith, and it is disruptive to the teaching of young children.”

In a bit of an ironic twist, the Catholic school, also claimed that wearing masks violation of their right to “bodily integrity and personal autonomy free from government interference.”
The school also alleges an “attempt by the government to control the citizenry” because, “Wearing a mask conveys the message that the wearer has surrendered his or her freedom to the government.”
Better they tithe and do as the church says or burn forever in hell after having insisted that when it comes to a woman’s control of her own body the government should pass laws to prevent that and having women subjected to restrictive laws thereby surrendering their freedom to the government, than to respect their neighbor enough to help keep us all safe rather than just make a whiney political point.
