Even if you go out of your way to find the elusive acceptable rationale for what the present Republican Party is doing and what stupidity it is spreading, the GQP finds yet another way to make this difficult.
Republican states are in an anti-Transgender frenzy looking for anything to which they can attach a ban on these people from being able to do anything that members of the Transgender Community might like.
The Fort Lauderdale, Florida City Commission recently passed a resolution condemning a state proposed anti-Transgender law designed to prevent Transgender youth from playing school sports.
Carvelle Estriplet, a Black Transgender woman, business owner, and member of the Wilton Manors Community Affairs Advisory Board, spoke out against those who did not vote in favor of the resolution against the bigoted ban after the vote. She began by thanking the councilors who had voted in favor of the resolution, and then said,
“You have to understand, as a trans woman, we face discrimination. we are demonized, we are constantly ridiculed. It’s so disgusting right now that the conservative movement is going after Trans women to create issues that do not exist. What is the purpose of that? There’s no purpose for that,”
before turning on Democratic Councilor Robert McKinzie who, while not being present for the vote, had expressed his opposition to the Commission’s resolution and the Republican Vice Mayor Heather Moraitis.
“Commissioner McKinzie, I just want to inform you that Black Trans lives matter, as well.”
McKenzie, like Estriplet, is black.
In addressing the Vice Mayor who had made a number of anti- GLBT comments during the discussion before the vote she said,
“It’s so hypocritical, Vice Mayor, that you champion yourself as a Christian. You champion yourself that you are for women’s rights. You champion yourself that you want to help the underdog, but you’re being hypocritical.
Promoting hateful legislation, promoting ridicule, like issues that don’t exist? Use your Christian heart. Use your Christian heart. You preach that you’re a person of faith. There’s no place for hate.
“Being hypocritical? You can change that. You claim to be faithful. Follow through. Practice what you preach.”
The Vice Mayor in her response repeated her position that Transgender girls should be discriminated against and cited Caitlyn Jenner, who is nobody’s spokesperson nor are her opinions representative of anyone other than herself, as proof, apparently forgetting or ignoring that But peak testosterone doesn’t cialis without prescriptions necessarily mean peak sexual performance. Her original stance had been that it was necessary for Trans athletes “playing sports as who they really are,” but now she needs the Republican-Trump votes, so she now opposes “biological boys who are trans competing in girls’ sports in school.”
“It just isn’t fair. And we have to protect girls’ sports in our schools. This is a question of fairness.”
As the media’s appointee as a Transgender Activist, her “Biological Boys” reference is proof that Jenner is no advocate as she makes the goal of equality impossible to reach as she feeds the already misinformed more misinformation for her own political gain.
And Estriplet obviously knew that besides being wrong, Vice Mayor Moraitis did not choose the most informed person as her go to expert.
The Vice Mayor pushed Caitlyn’s myopic and recent self-promotional sRepublican beliefs held to her expert,
“I do have to say I think you have a physical advantage over me, being born a biological female (referring to herself). I have to look at Caitlyn Jenner, what she said this week. I have to look at people who also have experience and see what they say. Do you want to stand next to me? Do you want to compare? Do you want to arm wrestle me? I do believe men are biologically stronger.”
Her desire to “to look at people who also have experience and see what they say” clearly excludes the Transgender person who she just dismissed with a reference to Ms Estriplet’s dead self.
When Estriplet shot back, “Are you calling me a man?”, the Vice Mayor said she hadn’t.
Reread her quote.
She had.
“Then why you don’t stand for the rights?” Estriplet asked.
Estriplet used the Vice Mayors excuses to highlight continued violence against Trans women, especially noting the number of Trans women who had been murdered so far in 2021, the majority of whom are Black and Brown, and that the murders were continuing.
But the GOP response was to have an arm-wrestling match to prove that Carvelle Estriplet was really a man.
Perhaps reading a book or a study on Transgender people would be a better approach for the Vice Mayor than wanting to arm wrestle.
