Back in my seminary days, as the only time, other than during mass and prayers in the chapel, everyone would be together was at meals, there was a prohibition against discussing religion and politics at the table. This was for peace in the house as these two topics were volatile and could turn a peaceful meal into one of anger and rancor. Even if you were not part of the conversation, you would still have to deal with the angry words of others and the emotional aftershocks when an argument or the meal ended.
Sometimes I wish there was some way to enforce this prohibition at bars, or anywhere where liquor is involved because politics and religion do not mix well with adult beverages, and are often the cause of loud yelling with little rationality and fights for no acceptable reasons.
The other night, while having drinks with friends, a news story came up on the TV behind the bar about Hillary Clinton’s latest exoneration after yet another empty investigation, and the young man sitting next to me announced that she was a crook and a criminal who should be locked up for all those things she has gotten away with.
He is one of those hard to explain Gay Republicans, and having been born in the first year of Bill Clinton’s presidency had no experiential knowledge of the Clinton years, so he had gotten his information from his Republican parents and other hard to explain Gay Republicans.
When I asked him what crimes she has committed, all he could offer were instances of her having been accused. In this country we are innocent until proven guilty, not guilty by accusation, and if proof of guilt is lacking, the accused remains innocent in spite of people’s wishes, desires, or opinions.
He did not seem eager or willing to accept any new knowledge at the time, as it would go against what he wanted to believe, so for peace in the house I pretended to be suddenly distracted by something that not bee said by the person sitting on my other side, and began a conversation about a new topic with him to get away from the first one.
I know this young man is not alone in this Hillary is guilty just because attitude, so I have decided to present all those things of which Hillary was accused, and the results of the investigations in rulings.
First, let me point out that this conversation took place in New Bedford Massachusetts, and this young city native made the claim that Hillary had always lived a privileged life without ever working with the common person. The reality is that after she had graduated from Yale, Hillary had worked with special needs people in New Bedford and was instrumental in creating the Massachusetts Special Education law.
He was not aware of her relationship with his own city, or what that relationship had created.
Upon their moving into the White House, Bill And Hillary were accused of having made corrupt financial contributions to a real estate entity known as Whitewater Development Corporation while Bill was an Arkansas state official. Their partners in the real estate investment were Jim McDougal, who was eventually was convicted of fraud charges for making bad loans, and his wife, Susan, who was convicted of fraud in connection with obtaining a $300,000 federally-backed small business loan.
The only “crime” committed by the Clintons was found to be their naivete` in accepting some bad investment advice and being played by someone who used their friendship for their own advantage.
In Bill’s first year in office, seven workers in the travel office were fired with the White House explaining it was because of ethics and financial record-keeping problems in that office, and not, as some claimed, to get rid of government workers to make room for cronies.
The Justice Department, a congressional panel, a special prosecutor, and Independent Counsel Ken Starr found the crony thing was not substantiated, and after 7 years being If a person suffering prescription for cialis purchase from diabetes has excess sugar in blood. During these investigations White House lawyer Vince Foster was found dead in a Virginia park, and Republican lawmakers and conservative interest groups suggested foul play. A note had been found in his brief case stating,
“I was not meant for the job or the spotlight of public life in Washington. Here ruining people is considered sport.”
Investigators learned from family members, friends, and co-workers that Foster had struggled with depression and feared he could lose his security clearance if he sought help for the problem. It was determined that he died at his own hand.
In 1996, while agents were conducting an investigation on a case, they found hundreds of FBI files on former White House workers.
In the investigation of what became known as “Filegate”, it was found that, in spite of claiming Hillary had compiled these dossiers, this had been done by two staff members who then quit their jobs, and an independent counsel uncovered no wrongdoing by the either Clinton.
When the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya was raided and Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed, members of Congress accused Hillary of offering misleading comments about the nature of the attack and failing to protect the Americans.
The House Select Committee on Benghazi interviewed Clinton for 11hours and when no evidence of cover-up and lying regarding the Benghazi attack and its aftermath was found, 9 more hearing were held, each arriving at the same conclusion as the first and the one before it.
Republican lawmakers claimed the Clinton Foundation had engaged in conflicts of interest and quid pro quo deals during Hillary Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state, but, unlike with the Trump foundation, there was no evidence of this beyond the claim.
During the 2015 election the FBI and Justice Department investigated whether Hillary Clinton’s private email server compromised government secrets during her time at the State Department.
The result was that, although it might not have been the smartest thing to do, there was no evidence Hillary had compromised government secrets either by intention or in error.
The final score is accusers 0: Hillary 16, if you count each Benghazi hearing individually; 7, if you lump them.
Other things Hillary has been accused of were her signing a lucrative book contract when she was a private citizen; not divorcing Bill when he cheated on her, thus, while being in favor of single moms, she was hypocritical by choosing not to become one; her getting financial support from the mafia, China, and Wall Street; her handing over the documents to public officials that she had brought from the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock where she had been working to the White House, which she had obviously doctored since no evidence was found in them that she had committed any crimes, so she must have doctored them; her being brain damaged; her getting the flu during flu season; and her running a child trafficking operation from the basement of a Washington DC pizzeria that has no basement.
If you add all this up, it is obvious that the aforementioned young man and others of like mind have a firm foundation upon which to build their negative opinion of Hillary.
