Everyone but me

How do you make America great again?

One way, as promised, is to realize as Trump does that.

“Our leaders in Washington did nothing, they did nothing. They let our factories leave, they let our people lose their jobs…That’s not free trade, that’s fool’s trade, that’s stupid trade and we don’t do that kind of trade anymore,”

ensuring,

“Restoring American manufacturing will not only restore our wealth, it will restore our pride in ourselves, it will revitalize our independence,”

and then promising,

“We are bringing manufacturing back to the United States big league.”

But what is missed is that while in places like where I live there are old factories that have been re-purposed as condos, apartments, retail space, and office space because it was a better idea to move manufacturing closer to the raw materials and removing the cost of shipping them to factories far from the source is that manufacturing is not dead, but that the output in the United States has doubled since 1984.

The words sound pro-American, and they certainly give the impression that Trump is all in favor of encouraging companies to bring their factories home, perhaps finding ways to entice them to do so.

But then there is this.

The banners for Trump’s second-term campaign, the size of beach towels and emblazoned with the words “Keep America Great!” are made in eastern China at the Jiahao Flag Co Ltd in Anhui province, the same factory that produced the “Make America Great Again” flags

Shipping them to the United States will subject them to Trump’s tariffs punitive, unless a way to exempt them is thought up.

Since March, about 90,000 banners have been produced on a schedule that may help them avoid the $200 Billion Tariffs when the kick in.
