Missouri Speaker of the House John Diehl who had filed an anti-gay marriage amicus brief with the Eighth Circuit Court, and had sponsored a bill to ban gay-straight alliance clubs in public schools because he is of high moral character while gay people are not, has been found to have been sexting with a college freshman who was part of the Missouri Capitol internship program.
The Kansas City Star reported, “The conversations unveil a flirty rapport and suggest an intimacy between arguably the state’s most influential lawmaker and a young woman taking some pleasure in a secret association,” and “paint a picture of playful sexual innuendo”.
He had even sexted, “God I want you right now”.
This man of high morals who is married and has three sons, was praised by the Missouri Family Policy Council “for demonstrating moral leadership and true integrity in standing up for the sacred institution of marriage and the family values of the people of Missouri”.
Having been caught not being so family supportive, he has resigned.
This got me thinking about all those holier than thou conservatives who not only speak negatively about others, but who are not only guilty of what they condemn others for, or, worse, claim without evidence what other people do, while they themselves do that which they condemn, and perhaps to a greater degree.
So I did some research
The now former speaker joins the club of those moral champions who have targeted innocent people who may be guilty of nothing more than being Gay, and who themselves were then found to be more immoral than the people they condemned either by having a secret life, or hiding their true selves in order to get and stay elected.
And, yes, acting improperly is not unique to conservatives and Republicans, but it seems the practice of loudly condemning other people while they blissfully do the same, is what is pretty unique to them.
Members of this august group include, but are not limited to:
Andy Boehning, the North Dakota legislator who had voted against the state’s anti-discrimination bill, SB 2279, that would have included Gay people, and then was found to have been posting explicit photos on Grindr, a gay dating and hookup app, under the name Top Man.
Steve Wiles, the North Carolina Republican Senate candidate who campaigned heavily on his anti-gay beliefs and his support of the state’s same sex marriage ban. Ten years before this he had worked as an openly gay drag queen and drag-show emcee at Club Odyssey, a gay-friendly Winston-Salem lounge, as “Miss Mona Sinclair.”
Caleb Douglas Hesse, a youth leader who had been a longtime anti-gay activist and even donated to Prop 8 in California to ban gay marriage. In 2012 he confessed to sexually abusing numerous underage boys at the Evangelical Free Church youth group in Yucca Valley, CA.
George Rekers, an ordained Southern Baptist minister and a founding board member of the Family Research Council, a non-profit Christian lobbying organization. As an officer and scientific advisor of the National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH), which promotes conversion therapy, Rekers has testified in court that homosexuality is sinful and destructive, and has opposed parenthood by gay and lesbian people in a number of court cases involving organizations and state agencies working with children. In 2010 he employed a male prostitute as a travel companion for a two-week vacation in Europe. When this got out he resigned from NARTH.
Georgia Pastor, Eddie Long, who once led a march to Dr. Martin Luther King’s grave in the name of defining marriage as between a man and a woman. He was sued by four young men (ages 21, 20, 23, and 22) for using his fame and influence to coerce them into sexual relationships.
Alabama Attorney General Troy King, a very vocal opponent to gay rights. He was caught by his wife while having sex with a local homecoming King of Troy university
Washington State Representative Richard Curtis, who voted against domestic partnerships for Gays and opposed a bill prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation. He had to resign due to reports of his sexual encounter with a male escort being made public. The reputed male prostitute told police that Curtis offered him $1,000 to have sex with him and that Curtis purchased two gay pornographic films from the hotel for them to watch in his room.
There is the famous Pastor Ted Haggard of the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado, who was outed by prostitute and professional masseur, Mike Jones, in November 2006 with whom he had been having sex for three years. While a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives, David Dreier voted against gay marriage rights, gay legal rights, and gay adoption rights, and has been accused of having sex with members of his staff and even paying his alleged boyfriend a high salary. When he almost became the majority leader of the House in 2005, he was denied the position by the most right-wing republicans because he was too moderate. However, when asked if David Dreier was passed over for the job due to his “moderate” views, Barney Frank told the press “Yes, in the sense that I marched in the moderate pride parade last summer and went to a moderate bar.”
Bruce Barclay, the Republican chairman of the Cumberland County Commission who believed homosexuality was a sin of nature. With a search warrant issued for a 2007 rape allegation police found hundreds of sex tapes he had secretly created while having sex with a hired male prostitute.
On March 3, 2010, conservative California State Senator, Roy Ashburn, who always voted against any gay-rights bills, was arrested for a DUI after he left a Gay bar with another man.
And who can forget former Idaho Republican, Larry Craig, who supported the Federal Marriage Amendment, which banned marriage rights to same-sex couples, and was also arrested at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on June 11, 2007 for “cottaging” a male undercover police officer.
During his two terms in Congress, Ed Schrock vehemently opposed all gay-rights issues, but had to drop out of is third race for congress after being caught on tape soliciting sex from a gay prostitute.
Florida State Representative, Robert Allen, who voted 90% in line with the Christian Coalition against pro-Gay legislation was arrested for offering to perform fellatio to an undercover cop in the men’s room of a park for the low price of $20.

Indiana State Representative Phillip Hinkle, who voted to pass a constitutional amendment defining marriage as solely something between a man and a woman, tried to bribe an 18-year-old male teen he met on Craigslist for sexual favors, and then attempted to buy his silence with an iPad, a BlackBerry cellphone, and $100 cash.
There is also Edison Misla Aldarondo, Republican legislator, sentenced to 13 years in prison for molestation of his daughter and her friend for an eight-year period.
Randal David Ankeney, Republican activist, arrested on
suspicion of sexual assault on a child with force.
Dick Armey, a Texas Republican and former professor, accused by
The Dallas Observer of sexually harassing female students.
Bob Barr, Republican Congressman from Georgia, who sponsored
the anti-gay Defense of Marriage Act, and said “The flames of
hedonism, the flames of narcissism, the flames of self-centered
morality are licking at the very foundation of our society, the
family unit” was married three times. He paid for his second wife’s abortion, failed to pay child support to the children of his first two wives, and was photographed licking whipped cream off of strippers at his inaugural party while married to his third wife
Robert Bauman, Republican congressman and anti-gay activist,
was charged with having sex with a 16-year-old boy he picked up at a gay bar.
Parker J. Bena, Republican activist and Bush Elector, pleaded
guilty to possession of child pornography on his computer which included children as young as 3 years old.
Louis Beres, chairman of the Christian Coalition of Oregon, was accused by three of his family members of molesting them when they were pre-teens, and confessed to having done it.
Howard L. Brooks, Republican legislative aide and advisor to a
California assemblyman, was charged with molesting a 12-
year old boy and possession of child pornography.
John Bolton, Bush’s appointee as ambassador to the United Nations, had forced first wife to engage in group sex.

Ken Calvert, Republican Congressman from California and champion of the Christian Coalition and its “family values” was not only sued by his wife as an alimony deadbeat, he was caught by police receiving oral sex from a prostitute and attempted to flee the scene.
Charles Canady, Republican Congressman from Florida and Judiciary Committee member, lied to his constituents about his adulterous affair with Sharon Becker, which caused her divorce.
Helen Chenoweth, the Congresswoman from Idaho who called for
Bill Clinton’s resignation saying “I believe that personal conduct
and integrity do matter” admitted to a six-year adulterous affair with a married associate. Like many before and after her, though, she has revealed, “I’ve asked for God’s forgiveness, and I’ve received it.”
Keola Childs, Republican County Councilman, pleaded guilty to
sexual assault in the first degree for molesting a male child.
Kevin Coan, Republican St. Louis Election Board official, was
arrested and charged with trying to buy sex from a 14-year-
old girl whom he met on the Internet.
Carey Lee Cramer Political consultant and anti-Kerry ad
producer, was tried for molesting two young girls, one of whom
lived with him, and was 8 yrs old.
Dan Crane, Republican Congressman, married, father of six.
After receiving a 100% “Morality Rating” from Christian Voice,
he had sex with a minor working as a congressional page.
Paul Crouch Televangelist and former President of Trinity
Broadcasting Network (TBN) paid $425,000 in hush money in
an attempt to cover up a gay affair.
Richard A. Dasen Sr., Republican benefactor of conservative
Christian groups, was convicted of sexual abuse of children,
promotion of prostitution, and several counts of solicitation,
enough to add up to a sentence of 126 years in prison.
His bills for prostitution came to $5,000,000.
Richard A. Delgaudio, Republican fundraiser and Bush pioneer,
was found guilty of child porn charges.
Peter Dibble, Republican legislator pleaded no contest to
having an inappropriate relationship with a 13-year-old girl.
Nicholas Elizondo, Director of the Young Republican Federation
molested his 6-year old daughter and got six years in prison
Larry Dale Floyd, Republican Constable in Denton County,
Texas Precinct Two. Arrested for allegedly crossing state
lines to have sex with an 8-year old child and was charged
with 7 related offenses
John Fund,a prominent anti-abortion columnist and GOP fund raiser, impregnated the daughter of an old girlfriend and then encouraged her to abort his child.
Jack W. Gardner, Republican Councilman, was put on the ballot by the Republican Party after he had been convicted of molesting a 13-year old girl.
Richard Gardner, a Republican Nevada State Representative admitted to molesting his two daughters.

miscarriage – she is no longer welcome in his home; his
daughter Ebony had 2 children outside of wedlock and
became Muslim. He has campaigned against infidelity and
birth control, gays and unwed mothers. He, himself, was
censured by his church after committing adultery.
Bill Thomas Republican congressman, had an affair with
Deborah Steelman, a health care lobbyist who steered
huge campaign gifts to Thomas’ war chest.
Strom Thurmond, republican senator and racist, raped and
impregnated a 15-year old African American maid.
Robin Vanderwall, Republican strategist and Citadel Military
College graduate, director of Faith & Family Alliance, (a Christian
Coalition spin-off), former student of Pat Robertson’s Regent University, member of Ralph Reed’s inner circle who funneled money to from lobbyist Jack Abromoff to Reed, was convicted in Virginia for soliciting sex from a 13-year-old-boy and on four other
counts of soliciting sex from boys and girls over the
internet.
J.C. Watts, former Representative from Oklahoma, is a loud champion of “moral values” who has out-of-wedlock children.
Jim West, the Spokane Mayor who supported a bill which would
have barred gays and lesbians from working in schools, day-care
centers, and some state agencies, if it hadn’t failed, voted to bar the state from distributing pamphlets telling people how to protect themselves from AIDS, proposed that “any touching of the sexual or other intimate parts of a person” among teens should be criminalized, had a sexual affair with an 18 year old boy.
Keith Westmoreland, a Tennessee Republican state representative, was arrested on seven felony counts of lewd and lascivious
exhibition to minors under 16. He flashed kids.
Stephen White, a Republican preacher, was arrested after
allegedly offering $20 to a 14-year-old boy for permission to
perform oral sex on him.
And these are only some of those who have something to say about others and claim the moral high ground.
