When the Supreme Court was dealing with the Defense of Marriage Act, people like Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh spoke about the sacredness of marriage. Between them they have at least half a dozen marriages with Newt having cheated on his wife and then having her sign the divorce papers as she lie dying of cancer in a hospital room. He just couldn’t wait for her to die.
Even the Republican patron saint, Ronald Reagan, got divorced from his first wife, and then married his second, with whom he had a daughter 7 months later, and the kid wasn’t a “premie”.
I lived in a state, to remain nameless, where the Lieutenant Governor was having an extramarital affair with her state trooper body guard/chauffeur while extolling marriage, and who then later divorced her husband, marrying a third guy. Her daughter, to whom she had passed on her marriage values, was married twice within a twelve month period.
When she ran for governor she promoted herself as the champion of family values and the sanctity of marriage, and won.
The hypocrisy of the champions of the sanctity of marriage goes far beyond the few I mentioned to include other champions who have been married multiple times and who had been cheating on their spouses prior to their additional marriages.
Yes, I know Democrats get divorced too, but the difference is that they don’t do that while running for office or oppose same-sex marriage on their claim they hold marriage to be sacred. That would be like me lecturing someone on eating healthy while I do so over a Bailey’s hot fudge sundae.
But these are Bible believing people who see the sanctity of Biblical marriage as the only way to go. At least for other people, I guess.
Now we can add a new person to the mix, State Representative Tony Tinderholt of Arlington, Texas.
As a retired Army major elected by Tea Party voters, he doesn’t like that now that Texas has same-sex marriage, but has it on hold, a judge, knowing the hold will be lifted, allowed two women who have been together for 30 years to get married because one of them is dying of cancer and may actually die just prior to the hold being lifted.
Tinderholt, who has been married five times himself so he wouldn’t know the value of a 30 year relationship, has complained to the State Commission on Judicial Conduct. Then his staff called reporters.
He wants a judicial system that “respects the laws” and separation of powers. In this he is slightly confused about the decision because he confused the law requiring that the attorney general be notified of any law’s being found unconstitutional with the assumption that this law requires a judge to get the AG’s permission to rule it so. He has stated that, “this judge deliberately violated statutory law, and this is unacceptable”.
He further compounded his confusion by ascribing the ruling to the wrong judge.
The Texas Values group, an organization dedicated to the preservation of faith, family and freedom in the state, is promoting the Rep’s complaint.
Now the state of Texas has to spend money dealing with a complaint that should not have been filed in the first place because a Texas law maker I confused about the applicable law.
As previously mentioned, the Representative is on his fifth marriage, and like others of his ilk, likes to claim opposition to same sex marriage is because the Bible has the final word.
I might buy their supposed religious principal if people like Rep. Tinderholt also paid attention to such verses as:

Malachi 2:16: “I hate divorce, says the LORD God of Israel.”
Luke 16:18 – Whosoever puts away his wife, and marries another, commits adultery: and whosoever marries her that is put away from [her] husband commits adultery.
1 Corinthians 7:10-11 – And unto the married I command, [yet] not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from [her] husband.
Matthew 5:32 – But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causes her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced commits adultery.
Matthew 19:6 – Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
Matthew 19:9 – And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except [it be] for fornication, and shall marry another, commits adultery: and whoso marries her which is put away doth commit adultery.
Romans 7:2 – For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to [her] husband so long as he lives; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of [her] husband.

1 Corinthians 7:10-17 – And unto the married I command, [yet] not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from [her] husband.
1 Corinthians 7:1-40 – Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: [It is] good for a man not to touch a woman. Oops, that would seem to promote Hmsexuality
Genesis 2:24 – Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
So one couple wants to make their relationship legal having been denied that for the thirty years of its existence, and a guy who has been divorced and remarried multiple times gets all self-righteous about that.
Go figure.
