Polls are showing that most Americans favor marriage equality.

The Republican Party favors prefacing anything they want to promote with the phrase “the American people want”, but when it is clear what the American people want, it can be ignored if we don’t want what the GOP politician speaking at the time does.

Such is the case with marriage equality.

The gymnastics that some Red states are performing to get around court rulings that have found that marriage bans are unconstitutional border on the desperate.

The party of law and order, so quick to condemn anyone they deem to be “criminals”,  finds itself at odds with these court decisions, and face two choices. They can either join the criminals and defy the courts, as some claim now that it is their right to do, or find ways around the rulings.

Texas wants to be able to overrule the Supreme Court. State Representative Molly White introduced a bill that would require the state to ignore any Supreme Court ruling that legalized marriage.

Alabama’s state Supreme Court has ordered probate judges to ignore the federal ruling that they have to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples.

Politicians in South Carolina want to amend the US Constitution to ban marriage equality. State Senator Larry Grooms says that it’s necessary for “the propagation of our species” something that is presently not in the U.S. Constitution.

In Oklahoma, State Rep Todd Ross has the bill that stops the state from issuing marriage licenses, and instead requires marriage certificates. Nothing really changes except the name of the document. But then the House there decided that only marriages that involve clergy will be real marriages, which leaves out non-Judeo-Christian religions and Atheists. Apparently the state wants to establish an official state religion.

Alabama judges have decided that they don’t have to obey federal courts. Oklahoma politicians want to switch from marriage licenses to marriage certificates to make it possible for court clerks to avoid having to do the job the taxpayer pay them to do so their “religious belief” can be given precedence. Texas wants to be able to ignore the Supreme Court. South Carolina wants to be able to ignore federal court rulings.

They claim it is a states’ rights issue, but in reality they are each trying to come up with ways to prevent citizens of the United State, who do not share their religious beliefs, from full citizenship.

What they feel to see is that not only are they in the minority when it comes to marriage equality, but they seem oblivious to all the polls that show the upcoming generations of Americans are being turned away from religion by these antics, and that it is not people like Atheists and Gays who are destroying the religion its adherent are so desperate to preserve, but it is those adherents who are their religion’s worse enemies.

Time to cut the cord.

For years, and a few presidents, the United State has been working on getting peace in Israel.

The two major things that needed to be dealt with were a Palestinian state and a less manic approach to settlement building.

Benjamin Netanyahu had been saying for years that he was in favor of a two state solution, and it was on his statement to that effect that the United States worked with him in good faith.

The settlement thing is just purely obnoxious as it seems that whenever we, his allies, caution them about plowing through Arab citizens’ land to build settlements, Israel would go right out and plow more land and build another settlement.

At least based on his support of the two state solution, there was hope that things could be adjusted.

But then, when it looked like he would lose his bid for re–election, Netanyahu did what the GOP here in the United States finds so helpful. He threw principle away and appealed to the right wing.
He abandoned the idea of the two state solution, which means he does not care how that would affect America’s attempts for Middle East peace, or he had been leading us on because it was expedient to do that to keep getting money from us.

Then he announced he would not stop settlement building which further jeopardizes any peace as he will now have to keep both pledges and anger the very Arabs he tell us hate Israel and want to destroy it.

And, if that wasn’t enough, he promoted racial tensions to get the far right Israeli vote by claiming that Jews needed to get out and vote because the Arab citizens of Israel, about 20% of the population, were getting out and voting. The Arabs being on the verge of taking over the country was a strong appeal to prejudice that worked.

Now, Mahmoud Abbas, the leader of he Palestinians on the West Bank, who has been somewhat able to keep a lid on things because of a possible two state solution, has lost that one promise, and may not be able to keep the lid on very much longer.

And that use of Arabs as a threat to get votes? It may upset other Arabs enough to have them take action.

But what does Bibi care?

He has the GOP fawning all over him and treating him like they did Putin last summer. They have declared where their loyalties lie.

And if the Arab world and the Palestinians decide they have nothing to lose now, and just go for it, Bibi knows that as Israel’s ally and with the money to be made with the sale of munitions and the money that will go to politicians in the U.S. who will make sure they can pay them back for their financial support, more of our service men and women will die or come home lame.

Maybe since Netanyahu was able to so easily throw the Palestinians, the peace talks, the two state solution, and the lives of our military that will end up involved in his need to make good on his last minute campaign rhetoric, it is time to cut the umbilical cord, show the Arab world that we are as angry as they are, keep the money we send to Israel home to take care of our own domestic needs, and let Israel clean up its own mess.

Netanyahu has played us the fool.

Time to get our dignity back.

Close Pilgrim Nuclear

evac

Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant sits in Plymouth, Massachusetts on the western shore of Cape Cod Bay. If you picture Cape Cod as a flexed arm, that would be the shoulder.

It needs to be closed, and here is why.

During the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s 2014 inspection of 94 plants in the United States, three of the plants, including the Pilgrim plant, received the lowest ratings because of degraded performance levels.

The power plant was built 42 year ago with a 40 year life expectancy, but was re-licensed for an additional 20 years until 2032, in spite of its poor rating and with no corrective actions being taken.

It is the same plant model as Fukishima which, as many people have forgotten, is still leaking with that leakage heading toward America’s West Coast.

There are 3,200 spent rods stored in a facility with a tin roof designed to hold only 800.

Even though it has been designated as one of the top 8 seaside terror targets by the Pentagon, 2 protestors walked through its front gate and into the actual facility finding no one in the front office. To make matters worse, they used the “visitor” phone, but no one answered it.

Now, for those who vacation on Cape Cod, live here seasonally, or plan to do either in the future, they need to know, as most Cape residence do, that there is no evacuation plan in the event something goes wrong at the old and faulty plant. Anyone on the Cape has to “shelter in place” as the two canal bridges will be closed. If you stay in your house you will have only 10% protection, or if you can stay in a cellar with no windows, 40%.

Anytime you leave your home to spend some time on Cape Cod, it could be the last time you see your home, family, or friends. It brings new meaning to Thomas Wolfe’s book “you can’t go home again”.

Because the whole of Cape Cod is within the “ingestion pathway zone” all food and water will be poisoned by radiation, and even if you could leave the Cape, in order to get away from the red danger zone you would have to drive toward the worst of the danger before you can start to head away from it.
You https://unica-web.com/watch/2015/list.html generic viagra cheapest can also take advantage by ordering from the online pharmacy. Fitting any generico viagra on line https://unica-web.com/archive/2017/unica2017-wmmc.html unauthorized spare part will only harm your luxury car- your extravagant asset.
It has been said that once everyone on the other side of the canal has left the danger zone, the bridges will be opened so everyone on the Cape can try to leave. During the summer months, the traffic to the bridges is bad enough when only some people head home after their vacation when there is tourist turn over. Imagine the traffic when everyone, all tourists and residents, attempts to leave at the same time.

Traffic is not going to move.

The only viable option is to swim East.

And all of this danger and its threat to health, family , livelihood, property, and environment for a mere 5% of the state’s energy needs.

Before it is too late, the NRC needs to decommission the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant.

It’s a sad commentary when, along with the usual signs of the Cape preparing for tourist season with restaurants re-opening, ply-wood being taken down from store fronts, and large numbers of people buying lots of cleaning supplies from local merchants, an additional sign of the approaching tourist season are signs appearing in front of town halls reminding tourists to stop in to get their two complementary Potassium Iodide pills to protect their thyroid glands for a total of 48 hours in case of a nuclear accident at Plymouth.

This is not to say that nuclear power is an intrinsic evil, nor is it to say that nuclear is not a viable source of power. It is to say, however, that it must be safe, and a faulty power plant that will be around for 62 years when it was designed to last for only 40 years, and is one of the three lowest rated such plant should be closed.

Is it really something that we want to pass on to our children and grandchildren?

What if the GOP candidate wins?

bib2

Today is election day in Israel. The GOP candidate has not been doing well in the polls leading up to election day there, so Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had to talk a little tough on th eve of elections in the hopes that he could regain his edge.

On election eve he not only said there would be no Palestinian state if he got re-elected, but that he would also keep building east Jerusalem settlements.

In the meantime, to throw a curve ball, the moderate opposition removed one of its two joint candidates for prime minister so as not to split the moderate vote.

The international community, the United States among them, many of whom support a Palestinian state and do not approve of the constant destruction of Palestinian homes and orchards to make room for settlements, are not too happy with these pronouncements.

His appeal to hardliners for votes put Bibi at odds with most other countries. Oddly, as he appeals to the United State and other allies to help protect Israel from attacks from such threats as Iran, he has promised to play the part of the bully if he is re-elected.
Not the best sales pitch.

Then you have his appearance before both houses of the U.S. congress that was supposed to be an easy P.R. coupe, but did not go over as well as he thought it would.

The fees does varies due to the cheap prices for viagra functionality. Generally, they will tell you in terms of drops, what levitra 50mg ratios to use of each type of oil. Even though he said, “If we get this guarantee for demilitarization and necessary security arrangements for Israel, and if the Palestinians recognize Israel as the state of the Jewish people, we will be willing in a real peace agreement to reach a solution of a demilitarized Palestinian state alongside the Jewish state” when he was first elected in 2009, he continued to expand Jewish settlements as if baiting the Palestinians to do something to justify taking more of their land after the fact, and has now promised, if he is re-elected, to renege on what he had said.

Considering that besides President Obama’s favoring a two-state solution in the Middle East, and that he and the international community oppose settlement construction, especially the way it has been done, Netanyahu’s election promises are likely to worsen his already strained ties with allies if he is re-elected.

While he claims his country needs to be protected from its enemies, it is hard to reconcile his seeking protection while promising to do those things that are guaranteed to anger the enemies Israel has and create new ones.

His rhetoric if carried out can only increase violence.

“We will preserve Jerusalem’s unity in all its parts. We will continue to build and fortify Jerusalem so that its division won’t be possible and it will stay united forever,” Netanyahu said.

Meanwhile, while Bibi is appealing to bias against Palestinians, the country has economic problems that the hard line stance will not address.

But he needs the votes and will sacrifice the Palestinians to get them.

Hate is a stronger magnet than responsible policies.

Who doesn’t love America?

tom

So a Senator on the job for less than three months gets seasoned GOP senators, forty-seven of them to be exact, to sign a letter to Iran’s leadership basically saying that whatever agreement they reach as a result of the negotiations with the United States, France, England, China, Germany, and Russia that would prevent it from getting a nuclear bomb could be undone depending on who succeeds President Obama in office.

They told Iran that negotiating with us would be a waste of time.

After negative reactions from the American people, most of the news media (except FOX, of course), and Democratic and Republican Representatives and Senators, the best excuse that could be offered for signing the letter was that the majority of signers hadn’t really read it because they were in a hurry to get out of Washington before snow started falling. Apparently that was a better way to handle the letter than holding off until they came back to town three days later and could discuss it.

This, especially as the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Bob Corker, was one of seven Senate Republicans who did not to sign the letter. That should have told the 46 signers that there could be a problem with it.

Buyer’s remorse has set in.

Republican Senator Ron Johnson, who signed the letter, has said the letter “probably would have been better just to have it be an open letter addressed to no one.”

Senator Pat Roberts, who also signed the letter, has now stated that because he thinks “the message is more important than who we send it to”, I might have been better if it “could have been addressed to other folks and gotten the message out”.

Jeff Flake of Arizona said, “I just didn’t feel that it was appropriate or productive at this point” when he refused to sign it.

While the seven Republicans who didn’t sign the letter criticized it, like Susan Collins of Maine who believed whatever opinion the GOP had should have been directed to the president not the leader of a foreign country, editorial boards of newspapers that had endorsed some of the letter’s signers during elections, expressed their objections.

Ohio’s Cleveland Plain Dealer that had endorsed Senator Rob Portman during his 2010 campaign wrote, “The magnitude of this disgraceful decision shows the degree to which partisanship has gobbled up rationality on foreign policy.”

The Cincinnati Enquirer, that also endorsed Portman, said the letter “diminishes the dignity of the Senate by disparaging the president and presenting an amateur lesson on U.S. governance.” The paper sees Portman’s signature as a potential difficulty when he is up for re-election.

In New Hampshire, The Telegraph of Nashua, that in 2010 had endorsed Senator Kelly Ayotte, a favorite of the Tea Party and conservative talk radio,  did not agree with her signing the letter saying, “One wonders how loud and angry the Republican response would have been if a petty clan of Democratic senators had written an open letter to Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev” during nuclear arms talks.

A viagra online free noted history of one or more vomiting episodes each week is what characterizes functional vomiting as a chronic disorder. This ED medication is able to inhibit the PED5 enzyme, which allows the cGMP enzyme to work to make your penis canadian pharmacies viagra bigger & thicker.
The Peoria Journal Star wrote, “Our expectations were higher of Kirk”, referring to Illinois Senator Mark Kirk whom they had endorsed in 2010.

These were the Senators elected in that big we’ll-show-Obama Tea Party upset in 2010, and those who endorsed them may be seeing where they went wrong with that.

Michael Gerson, former chief speechwriter for President George W. Bush, called the rush to sign the letter without discussion a “true scandal”. He wrote, “It was signed by some members rushing off the Senate floor to catch airplanes”. He noted that there had been “no consultation with Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman, Bob Corker, who has studiously followed the nuclear talks.”

Even Senators Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee of Utah have been criticized by the Salt Lake Tribune which has backed them.

Richard Haass, president of the Council on Foreign Relations, who had been an aide to both Daddy Bush and Baby Bush feels the letter could contribute to a world that will be more uncertain, dangerous, and disorderly.

Former Republican governor of New York, George Pataki, said, “Just imagine if, come 2017, there’s a Republican president and a Democratic Congress. … Would Republican senators want a Democratic Senate sending a letter to a country when the president is engaged in negotiations? I don’t think so.”

The mystery of why senators with years of experience, boasted Constitutional expertise, and what was thought to be knowledge of foreign policies and treaty making procedures deepened when Senator Cotton went on Face the Nation this past Sunday to defend his letter.

When Bob Schieffer asked the senator, “What do you want to happen here? What is your alternative here? Let’s say that the deal falls through, then what?”, the senator exposed his ignorance of reality when he replied, “Well as Prime Minister Netanyahu said, the alternative to a bad deal is a better deal. The Iranians frequently bluff to walk away from the table. If they bluff this week, call their bluff. The Congress stands ready to impose much more severe sanctions. Moreover we have to stand up to Iran’s attempts to drive for regional dominance. They already control Tehran. Increasingly they control Damascus and Beirut and Baghdad and now Sana’a as well. They do all that without a nuclear weapon. Imagine what they would do with a nuclear weapon.”

What he seems not to realize is that Iran did not take over control of Tehran like ISIS has been taking over cities in Iraq, but Tehran is the capital of Iran.

Although Senator Cotton believes the United States should increase sanctions on Iran, what he also fails to understand is that the other countries involved in the negotiations have been informed by the open letter that they could be schtuped by the United States in favor of what Netanyahu wants, so they might very well decide to ignore U.S. sanctions and fill the void by supplying Iran with what we deny them.

And to be the butt of Iranian jokes?

Come on.

Some parade history

pat

Today, March 15, 2015, is Boston’s annual St Patrick’s Day parade, and the big news is that an openly GLBT group will be allowed to be in the parade for the first time.

If you get on the internet there are stories of GLBT groups still fighting to be able to march, have recently been allowed to march, or are finally being allowed to march in their city’s St Patrick’s Day parade for the first time.

Most attention is on big cities and capital cities, but in all the news stories, there is one state capital that has been ignored. It might be because at the time it was considered to be a second rate capital, or because the media, both mainstream and GLBT seems hung up on certain cities while expressing no interest in others.

I know from my personal experience when, having been reprimanded for not following the suggestion back in 1999 to take down my list of GLBT people who had contributed to the world’s civilizations during Gay History Month, my attempts to get help from national GLBT organizations were turned down because Oklahoma City was not thought of as an important enough city that would give the various groups a big public relations boost if they took up my case. They had preferred, instead, a somewhat similar case in another, larger city where a win would be a big gold star.

Unfortunately, that case was lost because the “offending display” had been in a school hallway, while mine had been in my classroom. The judge in that case pointed out that a hall was a public place where the administration had control, while a classroom was under the control of the teacher. The judge’s ruling supported that of the two, mine would have been the stronger case.

The mistake made by the national groups was that they chose the case they pursued not based on the facts, but on the location.

This same attitude has kept GLBT history limited to what is advantageous to those who cover it.

So, as I seem to do every year around this time, I feel it my obligation to remind people of the real history of St Patrick Day parade inclusion.

http://greyandgrey.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Licata.pdf purchase levitra The only way out is prevention and control. Recently generic medicines make online viagra prescriptions for effective and easily cure of erectile dysfunction problem. In 2003 the OKC Pride Committee decided that the nationally established theme for Gay Pride weekend that year was irrelevant to Oklahoma City and limited to cities like Boston, New York City, San Francisco and other similar cities as it dealt with protecting the rights GLBT people had obtained when the reality was that Oklahoma did not have the rights other cities were protecting. We went another way with a theme of our own dealing with strength through pride that had a locomotive as the symbol.

Members of the Pride committee constructed a float on a flat bed trailer that had an old fashioned train engine and two cars that could be modified for Christmas, Mardi Gras, and any other occasion that had a parade that we could march in to advertise the June Pride Festival and Parade.

We put lights, pine garlands, fake trees, and yards of white cloth to simulate snow on it to march in the OKC and Norman, Oklahoma Christmas Parades; Rainbow flags and equal rights signs for the Martin Luther King Day parade; and more lights and Pride flags for the Norman, Oklahoma, Mardi Gras Parade at the end of which we were asked to take part in the Oklahoma City St. Patrick’s Day parade.

We hadn’t even discussed being in that parade or filling out the necessary paperwork, and here we were getting invited while in other major cities like San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, New York City, and even Washington D.C. GLBT groups had not only been fighting to be in their parades, but were continually turned away.

On the morning of the parade the person who was in charge of the Pride Flags that would be on poles at the corners of the float was mysteriously absent and unreachable. So, as we brought the parade float from the storage yard in the next town where it was kept, and seeing rainbow flags flying over an outside booth at an Eastside flea market, we pulled in, bought four flag, and found ourselves explaining the significance of the flag to the biker salesmen who thought it ironic that as butch as they were they were flying the gayest flags ever, but who appreciated the Karma and continued to fly the flags each weekend at least up until I left the city 8 years later, and may still be.

At the appointed time the parade stepped off, and because the OKC parade began one-half hour earlier than the one in Chicago, even though the GLBT community there had finally won their court case and were going to be in their first parade, we beat them by not only not having to fight to be in our city’s parade, but we started walking 30 minutes before they did.

They got coverage for their accomplishment, just as Boston’s GLBT community is getting it this year, but the OKC GLBT community was ignored for its accomplishments by both the mainstream and GLBT media.

So every time, since 2003, when I read a posting on the internet, see a report on the television, or read a story in a hard copy publication celebrating each city that finally is growing up and allowing GLBT groups to march in its St Patrick Day parade, I’m glad they are catching up to the city consistently ignored for its trail blazing.

So, in light of the Boston GLBT Community’s finally getting to march in the St. Patrick’ Day parade, I would like to extend my welcome to them for joining those of us who have been there.

THE REPUBLICANS DID IT AGAIN

Considering how untrustworthy they have made the United States appear to other countries in the world;  how insulting they came across to the leaders of Iran by assuming they were too backward to know anything about the workings of the United States in spite of many of them having gone to prestigious colleges here; and how foolish they now look as they try to slink away from their signatures on the Senator Cotton open letter by going so far as to say it was not all that serious and it is Obama’s fault anyway, the 47 signers of the letter have made the United States appear to be dishonest in its dealings with other countries and their leaders.
